For facilities and industry

Skip the school, use the tool.

An EPA-approved alternative to Method 9. We supply and maintain the certified camera configuration, so keeping a certification current at smoke school is our job — not a twice-yearly obligation on yours.

The problem

An opacity finding you can't contest is the expensive kind.

The cost of a visible emissions problem is rarely the monitoring. It is the finding you cannot answer — because the only record of what your stack looked like that morning is a number on someone else's form.

A traditional reading leaves nothing behind to examine. If an inspector records 25 percent and your operators believe the stack was clean, there is no artifact to compare. The disagreement resolves on whose recollection carries more weight, which is not a position any permitted source wants to be in.

DOCS II changes what you are holding. The reading comes from calibrated analysis of a captured image, and the image stays attached to the reading.

OUR SERVICE

What we do

Aerial view of a construction site with machinery, dirt, and roads with overlayed technical data and controls for mapping or surveying.

DOCS II automates the opacity observation workflow, converting the traditional paper Method 9 observation into a digital record — retrievable, reproducible, and defensible years after the reading was taken. Available for stationary and fugitive emission sources.

  • Certified under ASTM D7520

  • Approved under EPA ALT-082

  • GSA Schedule procurement

  • We provide the certified cameras

  • Weather from NOAA, GPS and solar angle

  • Distance and viewing angle to source

  • Source and site imagery retained

  • Full observation metadata

  • Export for permit and agency submittal

ALT-082 requires DCOT operators to complete training specified by the equipment manufacturer. We provide it, and coordinate camera configuration certification through the national smoke school network.

  • Manufacturer-specified DCOT training

  • Smoke school coordination

  • Configuration recertification

Certification records and defense support

A reading is only as good as what you can produce when it is questioned. We hold the certification record behind every configuration in the field, and stand behind the observations it produces.

  • Configuration and operator certification records on request

  • The underlying analysis behind any reading

  • Technical support through a proceeding

CERTIFICATION

Train your observers once.

Your team stops scheduling field recertification every six months.

Method 9 observer

Every 6 months

Smoke school twice a year, with the travel, the time and the cost, for every inspector who takes a reading. Every inspector who takes a reading has to keep it current, and a scheduling gap is a coverage gap.

DOCS II operator

One 4-hour course

Certified for as long as you use the DOCS II camera. We keep the camera configuration certified every 3.5 years, one certification covering every operator in a region or district.

What your observers need

  • One 4-hour DOCS II training course, which we deliver

  • Certified for as long as they use the DOCS II camera

There’s no six-month field-reading clock, because your observer is not the one determining opacity. ALT-082 places that requirement on the configuration, and we keep it current. Train your DOCS observers once, and they can get on with what they are there to do: capture and document the emissions event.

And the best part — DOCS II training is certified for life, so no more smoke school

One system, one workflow, consistent analysis.

ACROSS YOUR OPERATION

The same procedure across every site, shift and operator.

  • One certified configuration covering every observer

  • Operator training delivered for facility staff

  • Analysis performed the same way on every observation, regardless of who captured it

  • A complete trail from capture through analysis to verification

If a reading is challenged

We stand behind it.

Certification records, the underlying analysis, and technical support through the proceeding. You work directly with the analyst who verified the reading.

Bring us a source and we'll show you the record.

Tell us what you operate, and we'll walk through a real observation end to end — capture, analysis, confirmation, and what you're left holding.
